1 Where are sealants needed?
Joints occur throughout a building: between precast façade panels and concrete blocks, around doors and windows, and in floors, walls and water tanks. A good joint sealant must:
- Offer high elasticity to accommodate structural movement.
- Bond strongly to the joint faces.
- Block air, water, chemicals and smoke.
- Contribute to thermal and acoustic insulation.
- Resist weathering.
- Provide a neat finish that suits the building.
2 Most common types
For vertical and horizontal joints, in pourable and gun-grade versions:
- Polyurethane sealants
- Polysulfide sealants
- Polyurea sealants
- Acrylic sealants
- Elastic tape for high-movement joints and irregular cracks
